A Flea Market Paradise

Öland is a flea market paradise — around 20 loppis are spread across the island, rooted in a long tradition of farm auctions. Every village with self-respect has its own local flea market, and hand-painted roadside signs point to spontaneous sales along the way.
Expect vintage jewelry, retro ceramics and glass, porcelain, old LP records, clothing, home décor, books, toys, and rural curiosities. The retro trend is alive and well here.
In and Around Borgholm
You don’t have to go far. Borgholm has the highest concentration of secondhand shops:
- Retro Loppis och Kuriosa — Vintage finds and local curiosities, described as “a cultural experience”
- Smyckeskrinet (Norra Långgatan 8) — Vintage jewelry, clothing, and accessories
- Röda Korset (Trädgårdsgatan 12) — Classic Red Cross charity shop with clothes, books, and porcelain
- Klädkammaren (Västra Kyrkogatan 18) — Consignment store, children’s and women’s clothing
- Saturday flea market in the park (outside ICA) — Private sellers with mixed secondhand goods
Just south of Borgholm in Lindby, three small cozy flea markets sit within 200 metres of each other — look for the handwritten signs and open garage doors.
Around the Island
- Nostalgigården Loppis & Antikt at Stenlådan farm shop (Algutsrum, near Färjestaden) — Antiques and vintage finds on a working farm property. Open spring through mid-November. A good combo stop with the farm shop next door for fresh local produce.
- Naturiosa in Grönhögen — Antique shop and antiquarian bookshop in an old outbuilding
- Lilla Öland in Löttorp — Summer shop with handpicked secondhand and interior décor
- Björkelids Loppis near Färjestaden — Mix of home décor, clothing, and toys
During Skördefest (late September), many loppis shops open specifically for the festival weekend.
Practical Tips
- Bring cash. Established shops accept cards, but smaller roadside sellers often take only cash or Swish.
- Hours are irregular — check social media (Facebook/Instagram) before visiting. Many loppis post updates on the Loppisguiden Öland Facebook group.
- Friendly haggling is accepted — the Swedish style is modest and low-key, not aggressive.
- Best timing: Spring and early summer offer the best selection with fewer crowds. High summer has the most pop-ups open but also the most competition.
