Ride the Wind on Öland's West Coast

Ride the Wind on Öland's West Coast
from the house Get directions

Haga Park on Öland’s western shore is one of Sweden’s premier windsurfing spots — a long, shallow beach with consistent winds off the Kalmar Strait. Surfers Center Öland operates here each summer, offering equipment rental, courses, and a well-stocked surf shop. Whether you’re an experienced windsurfer or a curious beginner, this is the place to get on the water.

The beach is divided so that windsurfers and kitesurfers have their own designated area, separate from regular swimmers. The shallow, warm water makes it particularly forgiving for beginners — you can wade far out before it gets deep. On calm days, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is a relaxing alternative using the same rental center.

Good to Know

  • Haga Park is an EU-certified bathing beach with good facilities — accessible even if you’re not surfing.
  • No wind? Rent a SUP board instead for a calm paddle along the coast.
  • The center also offers wing foiling and kitesurfing courses for those wanting to try something newer.
  • The surf shop sells gear at season end — potential bargains on used center equipment.
  • Beginner-friendly: the shallow water means you can stand up easily when you fall off.

Combine with a visit to Stenladan farm shop or a hike on Stora Alvaret — both are in the southern Öland area.
